outSPOKEN 2018

...a fortnightly oral diary of contemporary times through poetry, spoken word and musical instruments.

An initiative of the Revolving Art Incubator, outSPOKEN serves as a platform and catalyst to reflect on contemporary times in Nigeria using the oral tradition.

Our pilot edition debuted on the 23rd of March 2017 and is hosted on Thursdays fortnightly,

 Pietrina and REZthaPoet hosted outSPOKEN in 2017 with guest appearances by

Chief Lari Williams, Dike Chukwumerije, Aderinsola, Toni the Emperor and the African Music Diploma Class of the MUSON 

Pietrina continues on as the host of outSPOKEN in 2018 alongside our new co-hosts Forttewrite and Caleb.

FORTTEWRITE is a student of the University of Lagos, Nigeria, she is a writer, motivational speaker, spoken word artist and an instructor .

She started writing at the age of 5 and has been since, using words as her compass to navigate the earth, but somehow that wasn't enough, her emotions, wrapped as words weren't satisfied with being on a page,  they longed to be giving life hence her dive into the art of spoken word and poetry.

Ella has performed at notable events some of which are Moonlight tales by Feranmi okafor, GARARA Awards 2017, Words as therapy with Amanda Ihemebiri and William Moore. 

 

  CALEB  Adebayo

CALEB Adebayo

CALEB Adebayo is a lawyer, fiction writer, poet and social entrepreneur. He started performing poetry in 2013, as an undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University,  one of his notable performance was to an audience of over 5,000 at the amphitheatre OAU ile-ife.

In 2016, he performed in Ghana at the opening ceremony of the Barack Obama's Young African Leadership Initiative Fellowship (YALI), as well as to a room full of diplomats at the residence of the Colombian Ambassador to West Africa in Ghana. He has also performed at the United Nations Alliance Of Civilisation (UNAOC) Young Peacebuilders training where 15 countries were represented. He recently wrote a poem for former American Ambassador to Nigeria, Ambassador Walter Carrington and his wife which he performed at a meeting with them at the American Guest Quarters. He has also performed his ace poem on climate change 'We should all be Lannisters' at the African Union building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and again before Ambassador Walter Carrington, his wife, and various US Consulate staff. 

Caleb has performed at various literary events including the Lagos Book and Arts Festival 2017. He won the inaugural Awele Creative Trust Prize for fiction in 2014. He is the founder of a writer's group 'Creative Writers' Niche', which he founded as an undergraduate at the Obafemi Awolowo University in 2012, a team which is still active till date.

 Caleb uses poetry to advocate for various causes; gender equality, climate change, peacebuilding,  amongst others.

He is a Fellow of the Barack Obama Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) and the Carrington Youth Fellowship Initiative (CYFI) of the United States Consulate. He is a lover of arts and literature as well as healthy conversation around ideas, arts and lifestyle.

Caleb also plays the piano!.

PIETRINA is a creative writer cum poet based in Lagos Nigeria. She is a Human Resource Practitioner and Psychologist who believes every experience is a learning point and every art is life. 

Writing to her is an opportunity to create, build, and sometimes destroy notions and ideas expressing life through words and opinions. She writes poems, flash-fictions, and also freelances as a creative writer.

She believes that writing is the best way to express what you feel, how you feel and when you feel it. Most of her writings are about life, love, pain, joy and well every other thing.

She also blogs about her life, economy, and her food adventure in Lagos.

Olamide wrote/ performed over 45 spoken word pieces during outSPOKEN in 2017. Her spoken word performance evokes a sense of nostalgia and familiarity.
