About Animate Old Lagos

ANIMATE OLD LAGOS IS A BUILDING PRESERVATION /CULTURAL INTERVENTION  PROJECT THROUGH THE VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS  aimed at reviving and transforming select buildings across Lagos Island into temporary cultural hubs through structured art and cultural events. The intervention will take place at select historical buildings in Lagos Island along the Marina, Broad Street, Massey Street, Catholic Mission and environs, while generating critical discourse around the arts, architecture,urban planning and policy making exploring the role of archiving and preservation of legacies in urban city planning,

The project seeks to;

  • engage the decolonization discourse using scheduled community based projects through  the visual/ performing arts as a post-occupancy strategy for abandoned colonial structures;

  • provide a platform for established artists to engage with up and coming artists in communities around these selected buildings including the general public in art engagement

  • generate publications, documentaries and other content to create awareness about the city of Lagos pre & post independence

  • generate renewed interest in building preservation and tourism on this section of the city.
